Manhole covers

A few years ago, I started noticing manhole covers wherever I was. I started taking photos of them and bringing them home from France, England, Iceland but also from villages and towns nearby.

I change the pictures a little according to my preferences and print them onto cotton. After that I pad them and allow myself to go hey wild with embroidering.

Beautiful white tablecloths in linen and cotton

I have used beautiful white cloths from the beginning of the 20th century as background in these pictures. I dyed them with rust, wine and tea, then I started to embroider.

Woven and embroidered

To make these pictures I made a background in my loom and then I embroidered a motive. I found inspiration in maps, the childrens’ schoolbooks, a sunny wall or rock carvings.
